Navy arrests eleven local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijaya located in Kalpitiya in the North Western Naval Command arrested 11 local fishermen with 4 FGDs, engaged in illegal fishing activities in between Udappuwa and Mampuri sea area on 3rd November 2016. During the arrest, 45 oxygen cylinders, 6 pairs of diving fins, 6 diving masks were also taken into naval custody.

The arrested persons and items were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries, Puttalam for further investigations.
