Sri Lanka Navy's inaugural Tabletop Exercise on 'Enhancing Interoperability among Maritime Stakeholders' held in Trincomalee
The inaugural Tabletop Exercise of the Sri Lanka Navy, organized on the theme of ‘Enhancing Interoperability among Maritime Stakeholders' was held at the Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda Auditorium in Trincomalee on 3rd and 4th November 2016. Commander Eastern Naval Area and Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Rear Admiral Travis Sinniah graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The two-day event was organized by the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet in view of enhancing the knowledge of fleet officers with respect to; transnational maritime threat of Indian Ocean Region, The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), role of the Coast Guard and maritime pollution and existing governing rules. During the exercise, over 40 officers from the Sri Lanka Navy Fleet executed scenario based exercises in relation to UNCLOS, Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Maritime Navigation, SUA conventions and maritime pollution in close collaboration with delegates from outside organizations.
General Manager of Marine Environment Protection Authority, Dr. Terney Pradeep Kumara, Director Security of Sri Lanka Port Authority, Major General (Retd) Nissanka Wijesinghe, Deputy Director General Coast Guard Commodore Sujeewa Perera, SLAF, Aeronautical Rescue Coordinating Center - Wing Commander VS Jayakody, Management Director of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Development Mr. M Marcus and Assistant Director Disater Management Center Trincomalee District - Mr. Anura Viraj Dissanayake were also took part in the event.
