Navy offers two Reverse Osmosis plants for community use in Medirigiriya
Going by the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, Sri Lanka Navy has been implementing a wide range of community service programmes focusing on the civilian population. As part of one such initiative, 2 Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants installed at Senarathpura and Abepuragama in Medirigiriya, were offered for community use today (15).
The two systems are capable of producing safe drinking water for over 300 families in Senarathpura 420 families in Abepuragama. The financial provision for the RO systems were provided by the Galle Face Hotel Colombo while its construction was undertaken by Sri Lanka Navy’s Research and Development Unit. Incidentally the Navy had installed 37 Reverse Osmosis facilities across the country thus far. In parallel with the RO plant installation, the Navy has also initiated a timely progrmme to make the general public aware of Chronic Interstitial Nephritis in Agricultural Communities (CINAC).
