Northern Naval Command conducts community development and social responsibility activities
As another step of naval community development and social responsibility project, the Command Medical Department (North) initiated a refurbishment programme at the Divisional Hospital, Karainagar under the guidance of Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva along with the supervision of Regional Director of Health (Jaffna) Dr. K Nathakumaran and District Medical Officer, Karainagar, Dr. Madura Dias. As the initial step of this project, naval personnel of SLNS Elara located in Karainagar, Jaffna conducted a renovation and cleaning programme at the hospital premises in view of the 61st anniversary of SLNS Elara which is the oldest naval base located in the Jaffna Peninsula since the era of Royal Ceylon Navy.
Meanwhile the Naval Public Health Unit (North) also conducted a rabies prevention programme with the assistance of the Regional Director of Health Service (Jaffna) at the newly resettled area near the Sri Naguleshwaran Hindu Temple and KKS harbour premises in keeping with the national programme for eradication of rabies by 2020.
