Navy sponsors a friendly soccer match between the children of Jaffna Island sector and Trincomalee
 

As per the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the Northern and Eastern Naval Commands have been conducting a number of Soccer coaching programmes and sponsoring the Soccer playing children at underprivileged schools in respective commands with a view to improving their Soccer skill. As part of one such initiative, a team of under 15 school children from Jaffna Island sector made a visit to Trincomalee and played a friendly soccer game with their counterparts in Tincomalee. The game which was played at the sports ground of Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee on 8th October 2016, came to an end with a 3-3 result. Deputy Area Commander of Eastern Naval Command, Commodore Ruwan Perera, graced this occasion as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by the officers, sailors from the Naval Dockyard and parents of the children.

The two day tour which ended today (9) also provided rare opportunity for the school children from Jaffna Island sector, some of whom had visited Trincomalee for the first time, and their parents to involve in a wide range of recreational activities such as boat ride, visit to the Naval Museum and worshipping the Konaswaram Temple. During their stay in Trincomalee, all food, accommodation, transportation and other needs of the visiting school children and their parents were taken care of by the Eastern Naval Command.
