Navy offers another Reverse Osmosis plant for the use of children in Rotalawela Primary School
Acting upon the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the Sri Lanka Navy has been implementing a number of community service programmes focusing on the civilian population. As part of one such initiatives, a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant installed at Rotelawela Primary School in Mahiyanganaya was donated for the use of children and residents in the area. The new installation is capable of providing safe drinking water for 300 families in the area and 356 children of the school.
Realizing the grave need for having more Reverse Osmosis plants in areas which are prone to Chronic Interstitial Nephritis, Sri Lanka Navy’s Research and Development Unit installed this unit with the financial assistance of Presidential Task Force on Chronic Kidney Disease Prevention. Accordingly they had installed 33 Reverse Osmosis facilities across the country to date. Further, the Navy had initiated a timely progrmme to make the general public aware of Chronic Interstitial Nephritis in Agricultural Communities (CINAC) to coincide with the installation of RO plants.
