Navy declares open a Reverse Osmosis Plant in Hambegamuwa
 

As part of the Sri Lanka Navy’s community service programmes carried out with the intention of preventing Chronic Interstitial Nephritis in Agricultural Communities (CINAC), a Reverse Osmosis system was installed at the premises of Hambegamuwa Junior School in Monaragala for the use of the school children and general public in the area. At the invitation of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the newly installed RO plant was declared open by the Uva Province Project Director, Mr. Jagath Pushpakumara today (23).

A Reverse Osmosis system is very much a necessity in these areas which are prone to Chronic Interstitial Nephritis. The new system has the capacity of processing 10,000 liters of water per day and will therefore supply safe drinking water for over 180 children and teachers of the school and 300 families in the area. The Sri Lanka Navy’s Research and Development Unit had utilized their expertise and technical know-how to build and install 25 RO plants in areas, across the country, where a high prevalence of the CINAC is recorded and will continue its noble cause undertaking a wide range of community service projects in the future as well. The ceremony was attended by the Venerable Maha Sangha, Deputy Area Commander South Eastern Naval Area, Commodore Sudath Kurukulasooriya, senior officers, principal, staff, and school children of Hambegamuwa Junior School including a large number of residents in the area.

Meanwhile the arrangements have been made for the foundation stone laying ceremony of the housing of the RO plant that is intended to be set up at Tathabalagama in Hambegamuwa, under the patronage of Commander South Eastern Naval Area, Commodore Sumith Weerasinghe tomorrow (24).
