Commander of the Navy attends the International Seapower Symposium in the United States

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne attended the 22nd International Seapower Symposium (ISS) commenced yesterday (21) at Newport, Rhode Island, in the United States.

The ISS of this year conglomerated under the theme of ‘Stronger Maritime Partners’ is considered as the world's capstone Seapower conference, bringing together over 110 chiefs of Navies and Coast Guards across the globe to exchange ideas and broaden international partnerships.

Further the symposium will turn out to be an excellent platform for the military top brass of the world to discuss the continued protection of open and free sea lanes during this year’s ISS-22. Director General Operations Rear Admiral Dharmenra Wettewa, and the Personal Secretary and Aide to the Commander of the Navy, Captain Buddhika Liyanagame, accompanied the Commander of the Navy to the symposium which is scheduled to be concluded on 23rd of this month.

Subsequent to the proceeding of the first day of the symposium, Commander of the Navy held cordial discussions with Chief of Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chief of Naval Staff of the Pakistan Navy, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah, Commander of 5th Fleet of US Navy, Vice Admiral Kevin M Donegan, and senior naval officers covering a number of matters of mutual importance. Mementoes were also exchanged signifying the importance of the occasion.
