Navy arrests twenty-two local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijayaba located in Nilaweli belonging to the Eastern Naval Command arrested 22 persons who engaged in illegal fishing practices using unauthorized nets in Nilaweli sea area yesterday (22). Along with the fishermen 5 Fiber Glass Dinghies 3 fishing nets, 3 pairs of diving fins and 4 diving masks were also taken into naval custody.

The arrested persons and the items were handed over to the Trincomalee Assistant Director of Fisheries for further investigations.
