Awarding of prizes to the winners of Admiral Clancy Fernando Memorial Essay Competition
The prize and certificate awarding to the winners of the inaugural Admiral Clancy Fernando Memorial Essay Competition, organized by the Naval Research Wing, took off ground at the Naval Headquarters today (03). At the invitation of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, Mrs. Monica Fernando, the beloved wife of a former Commander of the Navy, Late Admiral Clancy Fernando who is known as the most senior officer in the Sri Lankan military to be assassinated in the line of duty, joined this occasion to distribute prizes among the winners of the competition.
The occasion was attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, Director Generals, Head of Naval Research Wing and senior officers. The essay competition was held under three categories in which the below mentioned officers and sailors secured their places in respective categories and won lucrative cash awards along with certificates.

3rd Place - Commander (Gunnery) AAC Karunasena
Lieutenant Commander and below (English medium)
1st Place - Lieutenant Commander, KKC Udayanga
2nd Place - Sub Lieutenant (Legal Service) DN Amarawansha
3rd Place - Lieutenant Commander (Gunnery) SACR Kulathunga
Sailors (Sinhala medium)
1st Place - Chief Petty Officer (Writer) PKU Tissa
2nd Place - Fleet Chief Petty Officer (Patrolmen) GGA Banda
3rd Place - Able Seaman MASD Kumara
The essay competition which was organized in view of honing the written competencies of the naval personnel in the Sri Lanka Navy, was named as “Admiral Clancy Fernando Memorial Essay Competition” since the year 2015 as per the directive of Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne to honour the late Commander of the Navy.
