Seventeen officers are commissioned at Naval and Maritime Academy
Twelve naval officers belonging to the 2016 First Direct Entry Intake and another five Service Entry officers were commissioned at a colourful passing out ceremony held at the main parade ground of the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee today (30) on completion of their training. Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Travis Sinniah graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and took the salute. The occasion was also attended by Commandant Naval and Maritime Academy Commodore Rohitha Perera, Senior and junior officers, sailors and parents of the newly commissioned officers.
Those who excelled during training were presented with special awards in recognition of their outstanding performances. Accordingly, Acting Sub Lieutenant SWGMS Wijekoon, who gained the highest aggregate in overall subjects, was adjudged the best Service Entry officer. The event concluded with a spectacular cultural performance presented by the Navy Cultural Troupe and a band display of the Navy band.
