Commander of the Navy declares open a Reverse Osmosis plant in Thalawa
 

As yet another project of the Sri Lanka Navy’s community service programmes carried out with the intention of preventing Chronic Kidney Disease, a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant was installed and ceremonially declared open at Thalawa Maha Vidyalaya today (29). Making use of the latest technology, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne joined the opening ceremony of the RO plant online.

Acting upon the concept of Commander of the Navy, Sri Lanka Navy’s Research and Development Unit utilized their expertise and technical know-how to install this RO plant in Thalawa area where a high prevalence of the CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) is recorded. As a result over 1800 children, 150 teachers of Thalawa Maha Vidyalaya and 350 families in the area will be benefited by this magnanimous effort of the Navy.

Addressing the gathering online, Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne promised to setup 50 more Reverse Osmosis plants which are produced according to the highest standard but at relatively low cost by Navy’s Research and Development Unit, to fulfil the safe drinking water requirement of school children in North Central Province. Further he went on to mention the initiatives taken by the Navy’s Research and Development Unit to invent a mobile RO plant for the benefit of the school children in Padaviya and Sripura areas and the invention of solar powered RO plants instead of the electric ones, in the future.

The ceremony was attended by the Venerable Sangha, Commander North Central Naval Area, Commodore Merril Wickramasinghe, Principal, Teachers, and school children of Thalawa Maha Vidyalaya including a large number of residents in the area.
