Pungudutivu team wins the final of Soccer tournament of school children in the Island’s sector
 

Following the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, and the Northern Naval Command commenced several Soccer coaching camps for the school children who are in the Island’s sector of Jaffna Peninsula. The coaching camps were held from 2nd May 2016 under the coaching of retired Lieutenant Sukumaran who is considered to be a well experienced Soccer coach assigned for the task. The prime motive behind conducting these coaching camps was to develop the much needed Soccer skills of the school children and selecting players for the “Island’s Team”.

The final of under 15 Soccer tournament which was organized as part of setting up an under 15 Soccer team from the players of various islands, was held at the ground of Vaddukkodai College in Jaffna yesterday (8). The Pungudutivu team won the final of tournament beating the Karaitivu by 4-1. Seven Island’s teams competed in the tournament in which Pugudutivu team emerged champions.

Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva graced the event as the Chief Guest and distributed trophies and certificates among the members of the winning team. Meanwhile the teachers, parents and students of the area extended their heartfelt gratitude to the Navy for organizing this sporting event for the benefit of the school children in the Island sector. The event was also attended by Christian and Hindu priests, large number of residents and naval personnel of Northern Naval Command.
