Navy rendered assistance to bust a red sandalwood smuggling racket

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijaya located in Kalpitiya belonging to North Western Naval Command managed to apprehend a stock of red sandalwood, in coordination with Kalpitiya Police yesterday (30). The stock is suspected to be transferred from India by sea and transported in the country by illegal means.

On receipt of credible information by the naval intelligence, the raid was swiftly coordinated with Police to arrest the suspect and the lorry which was used for the transportation. The value of the sandalwood stock has not been estimated yet.
