Navy nabs 24 local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing
 

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Vidura located in Sampoor in Eastern Naval Command, arrested 14 local fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing activities in the seas off Norway Island yesterday (30). Along with the suspects 2 dinghies and an unauthorized net used for fishing were also taken into naval custody. The arrested persons and items were handed over to Muttur Fisheries Inspector for further investigations.

On the same day another 10 fishermen were apprehended, for engaging in illegal fishing in Poduwakattu sea area, by naval personnel attached to SLNS Walagamba located in Kuchchaveli belonging to the same Naval Command. During the arrest, a monofilament net and 3 dinghies were taken into custody. The suspects along with the belongings were produced to Kuchchaveli Police for onward action.
