Commander of the Navy awards education scholarships for the children of naval personnel
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, as the Chief Guest, presided over the ceremony which awarded scholarships aiming the educational needs of the children of naval personnel, at the Admiral Somathilaka Dissanayake Auditorium, Naval Headquarters today (16). In that event 50 scholarships were granted for the children by the Sri Lanka Navy in collaboration with the National Savings Bank with generous sponsorship of United Motors PLC. To coincide with the scholarship granting, the “Savibala Savings Account” was also launched today.
Through newly introduced savings account, it is expected to make the future resolutions of the account holders prosperous and empower the potential educational achievements of the children of naval personnel with the assistance of freshly launched education scholarship. During the ceremony Commander of the Navy awarded scholarships and handed over pass books for the children and “Savibala” account holders respectively. Further he extended his heartfelt gratitude to the National Savings Bank and United Motors PLC for joining hands with the Navy to accomplish this noble task.
The ceremony was attended by Chief of Staff of the Navy Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, Director Generals of the Navy, senior officers, sailors, the Chairman of National Savings Bank. Mr. Aswin De Silva, General Manager, SDN Perera, members of the directorate of NSB, Chief Executive Officer of United Motors PLC, Mr. Chanaka Yatawara, Executive Director (Finance), Mr. A.C.M. Lafir, General Managers, members of naval families and children as well.
