Navy apprehends 11 local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing
 

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Kanchadewa located in the Kayts Island in Northern Naval Area, arrested 11 local fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing activities using unauthorized fishing nets in the sea area Southeast of Pungudativu Island yesterday (15). Along with the suspects 2 Dinghies, 2 Monofilament nets, and a traditional fishing craft (Wallam) were also taken into custody.

The apprehended persons and the items were produced to Jaffna, Assistant Director of Fisheries for onward action.
