Commander of the Navy appreciates the naval and civil personnel involved in flood relief duties
As a result of the adverse weather condition which wracked havoc on most parts of the Island during the last few days a large number of people who lived in Kelani Valley area were victimized by floods and became displaced ultimately. During this calamity the naval personnel came for their rescue and showed a higher level of enthusiasm and character in relief missions while engaging in activities such as; rescuing and evacuation of people to safe locations, provision of food-water and medical facilities, cleaning up clogged drainage systems and water ways.
Meanwhile a ceremony to appreciate the noble service of all the naval and civil personnel who actively engaged in this great relief work, was held at the Club House Uswetakiyawa under the patronage of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne on 24th and 25th of this month. During the ceremony Commander of the Navy extended his heartfelt gratitude to them and awarded them certificates in recognition of their noble service rendered. Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, the Commander Western Naval Area, the Director Generals, a host of senior and junior naval officers, sailors and some civil personnel were also participated in the ceremony.
