Commander of the Navy pays tribute to naval war heroes
 

Marking the 7th year of eradication of 30-year long brutal terrorism, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne paid tribute to naval war heroes at the Naval War Hero Memorial at the Welisara Naval Complex today (18). He laid a flower wreath honouring the supreme sacrifices made by the heroic naval personnel for the preservation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country. A moment of silence was also observed in honour of the war heroes in tribute to their noble sacrifice.

During the commemoration, Commander of the Navy paid tribute to all heroic naval personnel Killed In Action, Missing In Action and Wounded In Action. As a war veteran, who had led the men under his command to many victories, Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne knew first-hand how true bravery and unflinching heroism had paved the way for the lasting peace in the country. He remembered all heroic naval personnel with the highest gratitude and saluted them for the noble sacrifices made by putting the country before self. The occasion was attended by the Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Sririmevan Ranasinghe, Commandant Volunteer Naval Force, Rear Admiral Travis Sinniah, Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha De Silva, Director Generals, senior officers of Naval Headquarters and a host of officers from the Western Naval Command.
