Commander of the Navy participates in the opening ceremony of Gangarama 'Buddharashmi Vesak Zone'
 

The 2016 Buddha Rashmi Vesak Zone of Hunupitiya Gangarama was ceremonially declared open by His Excellency the President Maithreepala Sirisena and the Prime Minister Hon. Ranil Wickramasinghe at the temple premises on the Vesak Poya Day (21). Accordingly Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne and the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs.Yamuna Wijegunaratne yesterday (22) took part in the Illumination Ceremony of the Vesak Zone.

Meanwhile the Commander of the Navy worshipped the Sacred Relics brought from Gandhara Kingdom and the Statue of Lord Buddha which was kept at the Thakshila Museum. Subsequently Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne took the precidence of the meritorious act of taking the Sacred Casket to the Seema Malaka of Gangarama Temple in a procession while the Navy's Cultural Troupe playing of traditional 'Hevisi, Drums and Dancing.

National Integration and Reforms State Minister Hon. A. H. M. Fowzie, and foreign dignitaries, Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, Director Generals, senior officers of Naval Headquarters and Large number of pilgrims were also present on the occasion.
