Commander of the Navy attends the Dawn Service of the “ANZAC Day” Commemoration
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne took part in the Dawn Service of the “ANZAC Day” commemoration at the Great War Cross of Sacrifice in Borella Cemetery this morning (25), at the invitation of the High Commissioner for Australia in Sri Lanka, His Excellency Bryce Hutchesson.
“ANZAC Day” is the solemn day of remembrance of those Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers who fought and died at Gallipoli in 1915. It is also a day of remembrance for all soldiers who have fought and died for their country, and commemorated on 25th April each year, regardless of on which day it falls.
The event was attend by former Commander of the Navy and former Sri Lankan’s High Commissioner to Australia, Admiral (Retd) Tisara Samarasinghe, Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Gagan Bulathsinhala, Chief of Staff of the Army, Major General Milinda Peiris, diplomats of the Australian High Commission and senior officers representing the tri-forces.
