Navy arrests nine local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing activities
 

Naval personnel onboard P 490 Fast Attack Craft attached to SLNS Uttara in Kankesanthurai of Northern Naval Command, arrested 9 local fishermen who engaged in illegal harvesting of sea cucumbers in between Chundikulam and Chalei sea area yesterday (24).

During the raid 61 sea cucumbers, 30 oxygen cylinders, 6 diving masks, 6 pairs of diving fins and 2 G.P.S units were taken into custody. The arrests persons and the belongings were produced to the Inspectorate of Fisheries in Jaffna for onward investigations.
