Naval personnel arrest 7 local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing
 

Naval troops attached to SLNS Buwaneka in North Central Naval Command arrested 4 local fishermen engaged in illegal harvesting of sea cucumbers in the Southern seas of Iranathivu, yesterday (7). During the raid, a haul of 200 sea cucumbers along with an FGD and 4 pairs of diving fins were taken into custody. The arrested persons and their belongings were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries (Kilinochchi) for onward action.

On the same day, naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijaya in Kalpitiya, arrested another 3 persons engaged in illegal fishing activities using a FGD and Monofilament fishing net. The arrested persons and the items were produced to the Assistant Director of Fisheries (Puttalam) for further investigations.
