SLNS Suranimala and SLNS Shakthi leave for Maldives on a training visit
 

Two naval ships of the Sri Lanka Navy, SLNS Suranimala and SLNS Shakthi left for Maldives from the Port of Colombo on 05th April 2016, on a training visit. The two ships arrived at the Port of Male today (7) and they were ceremonially welcomed in accordance with the Maldivian traditions. The Sri Lankan naval ships comprise of 249 officers and sailors as well as 28 Officer under trainees.

The Commanding Officers of the two ships, Captain Pujitha Vithana and Captain Priyal Withanage called on the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Maldives, Chief of Defence Force and Commander of Maldivian Coast Guard. Further, arrangements have been made for the Sri Lankan ship crew to visit places in Maldives with historic and archeological importance. Besides, with a view to strengthening the relationship between two nations, a game of football and basketball are scheduled to be held on 8th April. SLNS Suranimala and SLNS Shakthi sail back to Sri Lanka on 10th April 2016, having completed a joint naval exercise with the ships of Maldivian Coast Guard.
