Sri Lanka Tamil Teachers’ Union praises Sri Lanka Navy

Sri Lanka Tamil Teachers’ Union has praised the Sri Lanka Navy for releasing the Sampoor Maha Vidyalaya in a good standard to the school management and paving the way for hundreds of students in the Sampoor area to continue their studies. Sri Lanka Tamil Teachers’ Union President, V.R. Sahadevaraja in his statement appreciating the Navy for handing over the Sampoor Maha Vidyalaya, said ‘the school was in good shape and it has been restored promptly’. The school was given back by the Navy with all its assets including the furniture, the Sri Lanka Tamil Teachers’ Union stated.

Leader of the Opposition and the TNA leader R. Sampanthan, Minister of Resettlement, Rehabilitation and Hindu Culture, D.M. Swaminathan played a significant role in holding discussions with the government leaders over releasing the 177 acres of land in Sampoor where the Sampoor Maha Vidyalaya remained within the High Security Zone. On the directive of President Maithripala Sirisena, the land occupied by the Navy was handed over with deeds to the legitimate owners in Sampoor.

Governor of the Eastern Province, Austin Fernando, Opposition Leader R. Sampanthan. Minister D.M. Swaminathan, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, Chief Minister of the Eastern Province, Z.A. Nazeer Ahamed also participated in the event to hand over the Sampoor Maha Vidyalaya to the school management along with the 177 acres of land last week. The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne was given a warm welcome by the students and staff of the Sampoor Maha Vidyalaya. The Navy has also done the renovation work of a Hindu Kovil in the Sampoor area.
