Indian Navy & Sri Lanka Navy conduct a joint medical camp
 

A joint medical camp organized by the Sri Lanka Navy and the Indian Navy was held at the office of the Medical Officer of Health in Neluwa on 23^rd January 2016. Over 1,000 civilian persons residing in the remote village of Southern Sri Lanka received medical treatment from the medical officers of the SLN and the visiting Indian Navy aircraft carrier, INS Vikramaditya, who joined hands in the community service programme aimed at reaching out to the people of Sri Lanka in the true spirit of friendship.

A range of medical facilities were made available for the patients including testing of blood sugar and cholesterol levels, ECG and medical laboratory tests. Those with impaired visions were provided with spectacles after specialists' examinations, enabling them to go about their day to day life with the least inconvenience.

The civilians who attended the medical clinic were highly impressed by the community assistance extended jointly by the SLN and INS personnel, taking into consideration of the difficulties they experience in obtaining specialist medical advice due to remoteness of location and scarcity of public transportation. They expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Sri Lanka Navy and the Indian Navy for their magnanimous gesture, which had brought a great deal of relief to their village on a day designated as a Buddhist religious holiday dedicated to meritorious acts which include helping those in need of medical assistance.
