Navy arrests seven persons engaged in illegal fishing

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Therapuththa in Silawathura arrested seven persons on two separate occasions for their engagement in illegal fishing. Three persons along with a Fiber Glass Dinghy and a fishing net (Surukku) were taken into naval custody in the seas off Arippu on 28th December 2015. Another four persons were arrested along with a Fiber Glass Dinghy and 2 fishing nets (1 Surukku net, 1 Hand net) in the same location on 29th.

The arrested persons along with items were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Mannar for onward action.
