Eight persons arrested for using illegal fishing methods

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Barana in Mullikulam arrested five persons along with a Fiber Glass Dinghy and a purse-seine net (Laila) in the seas between Kudiramalei Point and Pukkulam whilst engaged in illegal fishing methods on 28th December 2015. The arrested persons along with items were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Mannar for onward action.

On the same day, naval personnel attached to Naval Deployment Baththalangunduwa arrested 3 persons along with 1 fishing net, 8 oxygen bottles, 2 pairs of diving fins, 2 diving masks and 2 snorkels in the general area Paramunai whilst engaged in illegal fishing. The arrested persons and the items were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Puttlam for onward action.
