Religious ceremonies held at Dalada Maligawa in view of SLN’s 65th Anniversary
In view of the Sri Lanka Navy’s 65th anniversary, religious ceremonies were held at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy on 08th and 09th December 2015 with the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, Mrs. Yamuna Wijegunaratne, the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral, Sirimevan Ranasinghe, senior naval officers, sailors and their family members in attendance. The Commander of the Navy also called on the Mahanayake of the Malwatte Chapter the Most Venerable Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera and the Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter the Most Venerable Galagama Dhammasiddi Sri Dhammananda Attadassi Thera to receive their blessings for the anniversary celebrations.
The religious ceremonies commenced with a “Gilanpasa Pooja” held on the 08th evening. An alms giving to 25 monks was also held on the following day to bestow merit on the naval personnel and their families. Fallen comrades who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty to safeguard the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the motherland were also remembered with gratitude and merits were invoked on them as well.
