Commander of the Navy declares open NSV Computer Training Centre at SLNS Shilpa
The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne declared open the Navy Seva Vanitha Computer Training Centre at SLNS Shilpa on 08th December 2015 at the invitation of the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Yamuna Wijegunaratne. The Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, senior naval officers attached to the Naval Headquarters and senior members of the NSVU were also present on the occasion.
The centre conducts computer courses for children of the naval personnel residing in the area. It is equipped with 10 computers, scanners, printers, and multi-media projectors, enabling users to have hands-on experience with a wide range of IT equipment. The courses are conducted free of charge for children studying from grades 01 to 09. The center also provides computer awareness programmes for wives of the naval personnel. Similar programmes are being implemented in the Western, Eastern and Southern Naval Areas as part of the welfare projects implemented by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit for the benefit of the naval personnel.
