Commander of the Navy congratulates Navy Karatekas who excelled at Commonwealth Games
The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne congratulated the five Navy karatekas on their excellent performance which enabled Sri Lanka to be the runner-up at the 08th Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi, India, when they called on him at the Naval Headquarters on 13th November 2015. They were, Petty Officer BM Piyasena, Able Seaman AGK Athukorala and Ordinary Seaman RWMSTAB Rajapaksha who had won gold medals in kata (team event) recording the top most victory achieved by Sri Lanka in the annals of the Sri Lanka Karate Do Federation since its inception in 1975, Able Seaman STS Samarasekera who had won a silver medal in kumite (team event) and Woman AB Shashinika who had won a bronze medal in kumite (68kg individual event). In addition to his gold medal in kata (team event), Ordinary Seaman Rajapaksha had won a silver medal in kata (individual event).
