Commander of the Navy declares open SLN’s School of Nursing
Fulfilling a long-left need, the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne declared open the Sri Lanka Navy’s School of Nursing at the Welisara Naval Hospital Complex on 13th November 2015. The Director General Health Services, Rear Admiral Nicholas Jayasekara, the Director General Training Rear Admiral Udaya Bandara, senior naval officers attached to the Western Naval Command, lecturers, principal, tutorial staff and clinical instructors of the NTS were also present at the inauguration of the first ever dedicated nurses training faculty managed by a military arm in Sri Lanka.
The Naval Nurses Training School, which envisages “Excellence in Nursing”, aims to impart theoretical and practical knowledge to medical sailors to achieve professionalism to perform their duties in the most efficient manner. The first batch of 35 Medical Assistants undergo the nursing training at the institute accredited to the Kotelawala Defence University .
