Sri Lanka Navy baseball team emerge champions at National Baseball League Tournament 2015 held in Diyagama
With a spectacular performance, Sri Lanka Navy baseball team emerged champions at the National Baseball League Tournament 2015. The SLN team beat the Sri Lanka Army team 07-03 to secure the championship title at the keenly contested finals held at the Baseball Ground in Diyagama on 11th October 2015. Store Assistant KAS Madushanka was adjudged the Best Player of the match while Able Seaman PHT Madhumal was selected the Most Valuable Player and the Best Pitcher of the Tournament.
Within a very short span since its inception in 2012, the SLN baseball team have come a long way reaching the zenith of the game with the guidance of the present Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne who takes a personal interest in promoting sports in the Navy. SLN baseball players have been able to bring immense credit to the Navy flying its flag high in the sports arena, recording a number of resounding wins. Having their performance improved at every encounter be it at home or abroad, utilizing the exposure to their advantage, the SLN baseball players have proven their mettle in securing victory through perseverance and teamwork. The champion SLN team is blessed with the supervision received from the Chairman Navy Baseball, Commodore UI Serasinghe, the encouragement extended by the Secretary Navy Baseball, Lieutenant Commander WNSB Dharmarathne and the training imparted by the Coach Navy Baseball, Mr. Amila Pathiraja. They appreciate the continuous sponsorship provided by the South Asia Gateway Terminals (Pvt) Ltd Colombo, which has given them strength to keep up their winning performance.
The Director Sports of the Sri Lanka Navy, Commodore Sanath Uthpala, the President and the officials of the Sri Lanka Amateur Baseball/Softball Association were also present to witness the match.
