Chief Hydrographer of the Sri Lanka Navy is Rear Admiral Sisira Jayakody

Rear Admiral Sisira Jayakody, RWP, RSP, USP, ndc, psc, MSc(DS)Mgt, MSc(NS&WS), ASC, has been appointed as the Chief Hydrographer of the Sri Lanka Navy with effect from 01st August 2015. The letter of appointment was handed over today (14) by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne at the Naval Headquarters in Colombo.

Rear Admiral Jayakody joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 1981 and successfully completed his basic training at the Sri John Kotelawala Defence University and the Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee. He is specialized in Hydrography, and at present, functions as the Director General Personnel in addition to the new appointment.

Rear Admiral Jayakody has held many important appointments both afloat and ashore. He has served as the Commanding Officer onboard the Fast Missile Vessel, SLNS Nandimithra, and many Fast Gun Boats in addition to commanding a number of Fast Attack Craft. The Staff Officer Naval Operations at the Ministry of Defence, Directing Staff at the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Deputy Area Commander Eastern Naval Area, Director Naval Training, Director Naval Personnel, Director General Administration and Commander North Central Naval Area are some of the key ashore appointments held by him.

Rear Admiral Jayakody followed his Sub Lieutenant Technical Course in India and followed a number of local and foreign courses which include the Riverine and Coastal Operations Course in the USA, the Senior Officer’s Amphibious Planning Course in the USA, the Training Manager Course in India, and the Advance Security Cooperation Course in Hawaii, USA. He followed the Staff Course at the Naval War College, Newport Rhode Island, USA and the National Defence Course at National Defence University in Pakistan. He obtained a Master of Science Degree (Defence Studies) in management from the Kotelawala Defence University and Master of Science Degree (National Security & War Studies) from Pakistan.

In recognition of his distinguished service, Rear Admiral Jayakody has been awarded with Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP), Rana Soora Padakkama (RSP), Uttama Seva Padakkama (USP) and many other medals.
