Navy rescues ten Sri Lankan fishermen in distress
Promptly responding to the request made by Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, the Sri Lanka Navy dispatched Sri Lanka Naval Ship “Udara” from the port of Galle on 28th August 2015 to rescue ten local fishermen onboard multi-day fishing trawlers “Manusath” and “Isuruputha 03” drifting 63 km (35 nautical miles) South East of Hambantota due to an engine failure.
Upon arrival, the ship’s crew extended technical assistance, and since the condition of the trawlers were beyond repairs, they were towed safely to Hambantota fishery harbour amidst rough sea conditions on 30th August 2015.
