Commander of the Navy declares open NMA's Navigation & Merchant Marine Training School building

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera declared open the newly constructed building to house the Navigation and the Merchant Marine Training Schools at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee on 28th March 2015. The Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Rohana Perera, senior naval officers from the Navy Headquarters, the Commandant Naval and Maritime Academy, Heads of Departments of the Eastern Naval Command, and the Directing Staff of the Naval and Maritime Academy were also present on the occasion.

The newly-opened two storey building fulfils a long-felt need in the Navy's premier training facility, which is being given a facelift to create a better learning environment for naval personnel. The new building consists of all facilities needed to provide quality training related to navigation and the merchant marine field. It replaces the old one, which were lacking enough space and equipment, causing numerous difficulties to the trainees.

Both schools now have well-equipped and spacious classrooms along with model rooms, chart rooms, and plotting rooms for enabling trainees to have better practical based training, which is required to improve their professionalism to meet naval demands.
