Navy Flag Blessing Ceremony held at sacred city of Anuradhapura
 
 

In view of the 64th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy, a Flag Blessing Ceremony was held at Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi on 04th December 2014 under the patronage of Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera. Mrs. Shalika Perera, the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, the Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Dimuthu Gunawardena, senior naval officers and naval personnel were also present on the occasion.

The customary religious ceremony was led by Atamasthanadhipathi Ven. Pallegama Siriniwasabhidhana Nayaka Thera together with the Chief Incumbents of “Atamasthana” temples. The National Flag, Buddhist Flag, Naval Ensign, Naval Area Commands and Afloat Command flags, Naval Establishments and Ships' flags were blessed after they were laid at the foot of the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.

A ‘Kapruk Pooja’ was also held at the Ruwanveliseya to coincide with the event on the evening of 03rd December 2014. Blessings were invoked on the Navy at the religious ceremony organized by the Sri Lanka Navy Buddhist Association.

Sri Lanka Navy celebrates its 64th Anniversary on 09th December 2014, giving prominence to religious activities. Many naval ceremonies are held in keeping with time-honoured naval customs and traditions.
