Commander of the Navy visit South Eastern Naval Area

The Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera visited the South Eastern Naval Area on 06th October 2014. He was accompanied by the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Shalika Perera, Director Generals and senior officers attached to the Naval Headquarters.

The Commander of the Navy first visited the Oluvil Coast Guard Deployment where he was accorded a Token Guard on arrival and warmly received by the Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Rear Admiral Sirimewan Ranasinghe. The Commander of the Navy declared open the newly-constructed officers’ wardroom and planted a margosa sapling to mark his visit to the coast guard facility. He addressed the coast guard personnel attached to the Oluvil Deployment and stated that the Coast Guard has a big role in protecting the coastal area of the island-nation and stressed the need to have a good rapport with the local community to enlist their support for the important task entrusted to them.

Thereafter, the Commander of the Navy proceeded to the South Eastern Naval Headquarters in Panama. He was accorded a Token Guard on arrival and warmly received by the Commander South Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral Jagath Ranasinghe. The Commander of the Navy declared open the Senior Sailors’ Holiday Bungalow and the Officers’ Club, “Longitude 081”, at SLNS Mahanaga. He addressed the ship’s company and stressed the importance of enhancing professionalism in order to become fully-fledged naval personnel, who are capable of undertaking all tasks entrusted to them with full confidence, producing the results expected.

During the Commander of the Navy’ visit, the Commander of the South Eastern Naval Area also made a presentation on the infrastructure development and the community welfare projects implemented in the South Eastern Naval Area, focusing the progress made so far and the future plans. Senior officers of the South Eastern Naval Command were also present on the occasion.
