North Western Naval Command conducts a blood donation campaign

As part of the Sri Lanka Navy’s community development and social responsibility project, a blood donation campaign was held at SLNS Vijaya of the North Western Naval Command on 30th September 2014 under the patronage of the Commander North Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva.

The blood donation campaign was conducted with the assistance of a medical team from the District General Hospital of Chilaw in view of the “World Blood Donors’ Day”. It contributed to this year’s theme, “Safe blood for saving mothers”, which aims to make Sri Lanka the first country to fulfill 100% of blood transfusion requirement by voluntary donors. A large number of naval personnel voluntarily donated their blood to save the lives of patients in the North Western Province.
