In a solemn and respectful event marking the National War Heroes’ Day Commemoration, the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda paid a visit to the naval veterans at the “Anchorage” Naval Care Centre in Welisara on 22 May 26.

Italian Navy’s ITS GIOVANNI DELLE BANDE NERE, which arrived in Colombo (21 May 26) on a replenishment visit, departed the island today (22 May) on completion of her intended purposes. The Sri Lanka Navy bade a customary farewell to the departing ship in compliance with naval traditions at the port of Colombo.

In commemoration of National War Heroes Day, Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) visited the Mihindu Seth Medura in Attidiya on 19 May 26.

The National War Heroes Commemoration Ceremony 2026 was held with dignity on 19 May 26, at the War Heroes Memorial in Battaramulla. The solemn event, organized by the Ranaviru Seva Authority, was graced by the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Hon. Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Aiming to provide a sustainable solution for clean drinking water, two (02) new Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants set up by the Sri Lanka Navy were declared open on 11 May 26 at the hostel premises of faculties of Engineering, Technology and Agriculture located in Kilinochchi, belonging to the University of Jaffna.

In a ceremony held on 08 May 26 at the Navy Headquarters, the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, recognized the selfless dedication of naval personnel who played a key role in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations during the devastation caused by Cyclone ‘Ditwah’.

The Sri Lanka Navy demonstrated its commitment to maritime safety and assisted to bring ashore an injured fisherman and rushed him for urgent medical attention on 08 May 26. The fisherman was aboard a local multiday fishing trawler off the south coast and the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo coordinated the retrieval of the fisherman.

In a crackdown on smuggling activities, the Sri Lanka Navy took hold of approx. 618 kg of smuggled Kendu leaves during a search operation conducted in the Periyapadu area of Puttalam on 05 May 26.

Naval officers honed their public speaking abilities during a workshop organized by the Speech Craft Club, held on 02 May 26 at the Wardroom of the Southern Naval Command. The session was conducted at the directives of the Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Dhammika Wijewardana, and featured resource personnel from the Colombo Toastmasters Club.
