Navy assists apprehension of person with Kerala cannabis

The Navy along with the police apprehended a suspect in possession of drugs belonging to the category of Kerala cannabis, during a coordinated search conducted in Agalawatta area, Mathugama on 17^th July 2020.

The Navy has been conducting regular anti-drug operations island wide to wage its war on drug smuggling and was able to make this apprehension as an extension of those efforts. Accordingly, naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command together with the Police STF in Aluthgama had intercepted a suspicious motorcyclist in Agalawatta area and found about 1kg and 584g of Kerala cannabis in his possession. As such, the suspect along with the stock of cannabis and the motorbike was taken into custody.

The accused who is 29 years old has been identified as a resident of Agalawatta area. Meanwhile, the suspect together with the seized items was handed over to the Mathugama Police for onward investigation.
