Navy assists to apprehend suspect with illegal drugs

A suspect with illegal drugs was apprehended during a joint operation conducted by the Navy and Police in Wanathavilluwa area on 12^th July 2020.

Sri Lanka Navy is conducting frequent operations to prevent the drug smuggling and its trafficking over the country. During such an operation in Wanathavilluwa area, a group of naval personnel attached to the North Western Naval Command in coordination with Wanathavilluwa Police searched a suspicious motor bike. By the search, 2.10g of heroin and 18.5g of Kerala cannabis were recovered in possession of the rider. Accordingly, he was apprehended along with the amount of heroin, Kerala cannabis and the bike.

The suspect has been identified as a resident of the same area, aged 29. Further investigation on the suspect, apprehended drugs and the bike is carried out by the Wanathavilluwa Police.
