Four (04) persons nabbed with Kerala cannabis and heroin in Talaimannar

The Navy nabbed 04 persons in possession of Kerala cannabis and heroin, during a coordinated search conducted with the Police at the Talaimannar pier on 19^th April 2020.

Even amidst the prevailing situation in the country, Sri Lanka Navy is contributing in the national effort of wiping out the drug menace from the island and has conducted a number of anti-drug operations to prevent drugs being smuggled both via seas and on the land. As an extension of these operations, a group of naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command with Talaimannar Police had searched a suspicious dinghy at the Talaimannar pier and found 10g and 800mg of Kerala cannabis and 15mg of heroin in possession of 04 persons aboard the dinghy. Accordingly, the 04 suspects along with the dinghy and illegal drugs were taken into custody.

The accused were identified as residents of Talaimannar, from 21 to 27 years of age. The Talaimannar Police is conducting onward investigation into the incident.
