Navy seizes a haul of Kerala cannabis at Kakkativu Island
The Navy recovered approximately 400g of Kerala cannabis, during a search operation conducted at Kakkativu island in Kiranchi area, Mannar on 26th March 2020.
The Navy conducts regular anti-drug operations across the seas to wage its war on drug smuggling. Accordingly, Naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval carried out a search operation at Kakkativu island in Kiranchi area, Mannar on 26th March 2020 and spotted a suspicious parcel hidden in a shrubbery area. During further search, approximately 400g of Kerala cannabis contained in the parcel was found and it was taken into naval custody. It is believed that this stock of Kerala Cannabis which might have smuggled through sea routes have been hidden in the island due to continuous naval patrols.
The recovered stock of Kerala cannabis was handed over to Jayapuram Police Station for onward investigation.
