Four (04) suspects apprehended with heroin during Navy-Police combined operation

The Navy apprehended 04 persons with heroin on two separate occasions, during coordinated operations conducted with Police Narcotic Bureau in Trincomalee on 06th March 2020.

In its mission to ward off the drug menace from the country, the Navy has been conducting a large number of operations at sea and on land by foiling narcotics attempted to be smuggled by drug traffickers. During a similar operation conducted by naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command in coordination with the Police Narcotic Bureau, a suspicious three-wheeler had been intercepted near Cod Bay fisheries harbour in Trincomalee. During further search the security personnel managed to find about 1720mg of heroin in the possession of 02 persons traveling in the three-wheeler.

Meanwhile, the raiding party also apprehended 02 suspects wandering the streets of China Bay in Trincomalee, for possessing approximately 820mg of heroin. Accordingly, a total of 2540mg of heroin had been found in the possession of the 04 suspects. The suspects, three-wheeler and heroin were subsequently taken into custody in connection to the two incidents.

The accused has been identified as residents of Trincomalee and China Bay, from 26 to 60 years of age. The suspects and seized items were handed over to the Uppuweli and China Bay Police stations for onward investigation.
