Navy assists apprehension of 02 persons in possession of heroin

The Navy seized 5g and 750mg (03 packets) of heroin, during a search operation conducted with the Police in Palamunai, Kalmunai today (22^nd January 2020).

The Navy has been able to apprehend a large number of drug traffickers in its anti-drug operations being conducted in view of eradicating the drug menace form the society. During a similar operation conducted in coordination with the Ampara Police STF in the general area of Palamunai, naval personnel attached to the Southeastern Naval Command have searched a suspicious small lorry and managed to find 5g and 750mg of heroin hidden in it. The two suspect on the vehicle were also taken into custody.

The suspects have been identified as residents of Sammanthurai and Palamunai,aged 26 and 30. The suspects along with the lorry and heroin were handed over to the Akkareipaththu Police for onward investigation.
