Navy assists apprehension of drug dealer

The Navy in coordination with SL Excise apprehended a drug dealer during a search conducted in Mannar area on 08^th February 2020.

In its effort to make a drug-free country, the Navy has been conducting a number of anti-drug operations and has thus far apprehended many drug dealers. The Navy, during a similar operation conducted with the assistance of the Chankanai Excise Station in Jaffna, found a person who kept 122mg of heroin and 499g of other unknown drugs in his possession, intended for sale, and the suspect was taken into custody accordingly.

The accused has been identified as a 24 year old resident in Mannar area. Chankanai Excise Station is conducting further investigation on the person and seized drugs.
