Naval contribution in National Mission of foaming drug free country-two persons apprehended with Kerala cannabis
The Navy in coordination with the Police apprehended two persons with Kerala cannabis in Kayts, Jaffna today (4th January 2020).
Accordingly, the SL Navy who is an active counterpart in National Mission of foaming a drug free country, in coordination with SL Police conducted a raid in Kayts and apprehended two persons with about 2.5kg of Kerala cannabis. The apprehension was made when the suspects were attempting to sell cannabis. The suspects are residents of Sankanai area in Kayts aged 23 and 27.
By further inquiry, these two suspects were identified as the drug dealers in the area. Further investigation on apprehended KG and the suspects are being carried out by the Kayts Police.
Only in the last year Sri Lanka Navy within 140 occasions, recovered more than 3.5 tons of Kerala Cannabis and apprehended 221 suspects. Further, only within the first week of this year 04 suspects were nabbed with about 3 kg of Kerala cannabis. Navy is always vigilant on illegal drug trafficking and carries out operations to avert them.
